This painting was the first wildlife painting I’d created on a wooden panel.

I chose this reference photo because I loved the way the squirrel peeks from behind the tree, and although the tree is also a part of the painting, it adds depth whilst keeping the squirrel as the main focus.

The aim of the background colour was to complement the squirrel and the purple tones in its fur, and to capture the vibrant, lively essence of wildlife.
