This painting was the first of my wildlife series with a bokeh background.

I chose the reference photo because of the cute subject but also because it had a blurred background already, so it would be easy to create the effect for the first time.

I also loved the vibrancy of the berries and the contrast against the background and how the light shone from behind the mouse, enhancing the focal point of the painting. I opted for the green background to create a juxtaposition between the mouse eating ,exposed, amidst the dangers of nature surrounding him.

Through this painting, I’ve learnt to convey emotions like vulnerability in animals and their environment, using just paint and brushstrokes.
